What Happens During a Root Canal?
All root canals involve us numbing the affected area of the mouth to ensure that no pain is felt during the procedure. A small hole is made in the tooth being treated so that Dr. Herrera can access its pulp, or innermost chamber, and the source of the infection.
From there, it’s a simple matter of clearing out the infected and damaged tissue, sanitizing the tooth, and filling it with a special, biocompatible material called gutta-percha. Once the tooth has been treated, a dental crown can be placed over it, ensuring that it’s protected from future harm.
